Movie Analysis “The Hate U Give”
In most cases, film adaptations of books tend to differ from the source materials. It is critical to appreciate that the two are different ways of telling the same story. Angie Thomas’ novel, “The Hate U Give” narrates the story of an African American teenager Starr, who has to overcome various challenges while living in a black neighborhood. The film is a powerful adaptation of the novel and to some extent, remains true to the book. However, the film adaptation has significant chances and omissions too.
Both the book and the film take time to explain the various inequalities that face black Americans. Reading the book or watching the film beings these challenges well. In both instances, Starr learns about the unjust systems that oppress African Americans. Starr does not accept the way things are.
