Hamlet (1997) is a complete adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet play. The film, adapted and directed by Kenneth Branagh, represents the first complete adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play. The film showcases a theme that seeks to unravel the mystery of death and revenge brought to life a ghost. By using a ghost, the film illuminates an impossibility of certainty brought by a knowledgeable ghost consequently diverting our attention from the wedding. The film is a masterpiece showcasing the creative work of the writer and director as well as the proficiency and showmanship of the actors bring the play to live in a captivating, exciting and engaging way.
The film is an adaptation of a story of a prince who briefly grieves the death of his father, King Hamlet. Hamlet is unhappy that his mother swiftly remarried Claudius after the demise of King Hamlet. As the heir of the throne, Hamlet is robbed of the opportunity to succeed his father. The ghost of King Hamlet appears to Hamlet to notify him the killer lies within. Claudius killed the king. Meanwhile, Gertrude remains ignorant of the evil plan by Claudius who desired to become the king by eliminating King Hamlet, his brother. Hamlet headed on a sworn mission to avenge his father, and reclaim the throne.
