Psychology Principles and Personal Life

Essay Instructions:

One of the core objectives of this course is that you can articulate the personal relevance of the course material. While I know that this course has moved rapidly, I'd like you to take a few minutes to reflect on the topics that we have covered. For this assignment, I want you to identify four (4) principles you learned in this course; explain each one including any relevant research and relate it to your own life. Your selection is personal, I recognize that, but the four principles should come from different topics within the course. By the way, the chapter title is a topic, not a principle. You wouldn't write about Learning, unless you were focusing on one or more of the principles or concepts of learning.
Your essay requires an introduction, discussion of the four examples, and a conclusion. All four of your examples should come from DIFFERENT categories of psychology.
Your essay should include a discussion of the general theme of personal relevance through clear and detailed discussions of each principle. Each principle should describe specific evidence (studies, theories, or the text). Use diverse, non-overlapping principles that represent different topics from the course and be sure to relate exactly how they prove relevant to your life with specific examples. The relevance may be personal or it may be in response to the social events of the times, but give me examples. It is not enough to say memory is important and I use it everyday! That isn't a principle nor is it an example of relevance.
You should think of this assignment as your final examination - and in fact, if you were in my face-to-face class you would have this question to respond to as part of your final exam. If you were writing this course in my classroom, you might be able to reference your notes and your text book - but no other outside sources. I want you to treat this assignment in that same way - the only sources you may use are from your notes, your textbook, or materials I presented here on Canvas.
Often students ask me if I have a minimum number of words or pages. I don't - how many words and/or pages do you need to complete this? I can tell you though that most submissions are at least three pages, but the length depends on your writing skills and your ability to synthesize all of this information.
NOTE: You will submit this paper utilizing TurnItIn, which will check for plagiarism and basic grammar.

Psychology Principles and Personal Life
The field of psychology is dedicated to the systematic study of human behavior and mental processes. It is quite a broad field that helps to understand the internal wiring of an individual's thought process as well as the various aspects that affect it. I have really enjoyed being part of this class as it has always been my dream to learn about the way people, as well as myself, think. It has been a memorable journey of enlightenment that can be helpful in future professional applications. Throughout this course, I have gained a deeper understanding of these topics and valuable insights into my life. There are various theories or principles that I have learned in the course, which also have had a personal impact on me.
Social Identity Theory
According to Social Identity Theory, people's perception of themselves is influenced by their membership in a particular social group. This theory elaborates on how and why an individual tends to associate oneself with a particular group. It speaks a lot about how one's character and personality are influenced by the larger group they identify with. I can relate to this theory as I have noticed myself displaying different behavior when interacting with various social groups (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2021). For instance, when I am with my family, I tend to exhibit more conservative and restrained behavior, whereas in the company of my friends, I tend to be more open and expressive. I also tend to associate with friends who are more laid back and not overly aggressive in their engagements. Through this theory, I have realized that matters to do with self-esteem and peer pressure are fundamentally hinged on the support system that an individual has around him. One's social life plays a great role in determining the person's overall character. The Social Identity Theory has helped me comprehend why people display diverse behavior in different social contexts.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
I also learned about this theory during the course. Human beings usually have needs right from the time they are born. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory describes the stages of human needs, beginning with basic physiological needs such as food and shelter, then progressing to safety, social, esteem, and self-actualization (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2021). This theory is personally relevant as it has aided ...
