Onboarding is arguably one of the best ways to orient an employee into the organizational culture and processes. Some companies usually take up onboarding as a process that they learn as they continue going forward. Quite often, companies take up new employees, take them around as a form of orientation, then wait for the new staff to ask any question they might have, before signing their letters and getting down to work. It is a rushed and seriously flawed process which leave unprepared employees having to handle vital duties. For the sake of this company however, it is important to conceptualize onboarding early enough to reap the best out of it. It is for this reason that the company needs to quickly create a comprehensive onboarding process, to streamline services.
Outline of an Onboarding Process
* Choose the preferred type of onboarding: Between formal and informal, one should go for the formal one first to create an impression of seriousness on the employee. It also ushers the employee into the organizational culture of the workplace.
* Identify the needs of the new employee: The needs are in most cases the very basic ones in any new workplace. They include most of the things to do with the rules of the workplace, procedures, dressing code and such. A new employee would also need some support from workmates to feel welcomed.
