[school/course] A combination of class and love is a common theme in Jane Austen’s work. Pride and Prejudice carry the class differences which are evident in the way the protagonists are characterized. Elizabeth Bennet comes from a middle-class family while her love interest, Mr. Darcy, is from an upper-class family. This gives us an obvious impression that there will be disapproval of a family member either from Elizabeth’s or Darcy’s Family.
Concerning this is the genre that this novel belongs to. Realism can be the right genre of this novel because it incorporates the reality of everyday lives instead of fantasy. It also appeals to the emotions of the readers by giving instances they can relate to.
As has been mentioned above, love is one of the themes of this novel. The tone is relatively and presumably related to the theme and that is a love story. Because of the narrative of Elizabeth and Darcy, the reader may assume the feeling and vibe the novel is trying to give. In a way, it is also sarcastic when delivering intriguing topics.
This linear and chronological novel tackles Elizabeth's journey to finding a husband that would meet her standard. Along her journey, obstacles appear as part of the things she must go through. This includes the people who hinder her from finding the right man to the people that prevent her to marry despite having found the guy to marry. Elizabeth also plays her antagonist as she doubts the possibility of having Darcy as her husband (Austen, 2001).
