According to the Chernobyl clips from the HBO series, the character Boris Shcherbina shows how risk is part of an individual character, even though it can lead to unwanted effects and disaster. Any individual will be keen to take risks in cases where there are no alternatives. Also, even though risk can lead to loss of life, it is often the best choice, especially when faced with complex situations that are difficult to resolve. Risk is part of a person’s identity since it defines the individual. For instance, bravely is linked with taking risks. When making ethical decisions, the risk is often a factor to be considered. In the series, the individuals are not in agreement about the right choices to make after the reactor explodes.
