Phoenicia is the name for the nation and people who lived on the Syrian coast in olden times at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. The population pressures as well as economic opportunities compelled them to move out into the seas. It is notable that the Phoenicians colonized a lot of areas alongside the Mediterranean Sea including Carthage, Cyprus and Sardinia (Coffin, Stacey & Lerner, 2005).The Phoenician civilization could be considered to have been superior to Roman life up to the time Rome destroyed Carthage due to several reasons.On the Sea: First, in seamanship, the Phoenicians were by far superior to all other peoples and countries of that period including the Romans.The Mediterranean Sea essentially allowed the Phoenician peoples to explore, to wonder and to discover.
