New practice approaches
Undertaking the capstone project change provided numerous opportunities that are ideal for developing new skills and gaining knowledge that is key in improving mental healthcare among older adults in rehabilitation centers. In this case, I learned that physical activities would be used to control and manage depression by making it possible for depressed individuals to control their moods and thoughts (Dugan et al., 2015). I realized that if effectively managed, exercises would provide patients with equal or better results than the use of antidepressants. However, it is critical to ensure that depressed people utilize individualized programs that meet their mental health care. Additionally, I learned that nurses have a critical role in helping depressed adults; they help patients develop their treatment interventions and teach them how to design exercises to meet the intended goal. Therefore, nurses and other healthcare practitioners should be involved in the planning and execution of healthcare management programs.
Interprofessional collaboration
The importance of interprofessional collaboration was realized during the project change proposal. I learned that nurses, social workers, and physicians, and other medical health practitioners should be directly involved in planning and implementing healthcare programs in hospitals. For instance, nurses are expected to help depressed patients develop exercise plans that address the needs noted by the physicians. It was noted that having an interdisciplinary team where different groups of healthcare practitioners work together would help in improving the quality of mental healthcare care provided to older patients with depression in hospitals and other rehabilitation centers. Collaboration between the physicians and nurses would help in facilitating effective methodologies for managing and controlling depression.
Healthcare Delivery and Clinical System
The project change proposal has offered critical insights into the healthcare delivery system and its effectiveness in addressing patients’ health needs with different conditions. The project helped in understanding the clinical system’s preparedness is addressing the psychological needs of older adults who are prone to various types of mental health conditions such as depression. It is was clear that healthcare delivery may be modified to accommodate new and better self-management approaches that would be utilized in managing depressions. I learned that non-pharmacological interventions would work as better as antidepressants in controlling depressive symptoms and that physical exercises are suitable because they do not have negative side effects. Clinical systems should consider using physical activities in managing depression among older adults; this is necessary since the population of individuals over sixty-five years is expected to increase in the future.
Ethical considerations in health care
Ideally, the project change proposal provided insights into the various ethical concerns that nurses and other healthcare practitioners are likely to experience in a hospital setting. For example, there ...
