Focus and Purpose
Unlike other artists, Moyer has concentrated on the art by giving it a new feel that is not very common in many artworks. The author has combined the architectural aspects of sculpture and drawings to give his art a feeling of newness. Unlike in architecture where structures are drawn suing systematic ways, Moyer has successfully done it using her hands. The purpose of this art is to give the audience a feeling of art and assuring the audience that art may be different but still, it can incorporate several aspects of architectural space to achieve a beautiful, spectacular drawing.
Curatorial Choices
Moyer has successfully made a hybrid of architectural space and natural materials. The art is composed of large-scale paintings that are combined to fit together in a fabric material. The author has employed the architectural space aspect drawing his inspiration from the previous artists who relied on architectural space. He has successfully made large-scale paintings using oil on paper. Each of his paintings “has a unique composition of variegated and multi-hued sections of repurposed marble, slate and stone combined with a spectrum of colors." The monumental measures 18 feet in length and is composed of several arts brought together. Although the works are made out of organic materials and handwork, the resulting artwork is more architectural and graphics making the artwork outstanding from all the other works of Sam Moyer.
To efficiently achieve a tonal range Moyer made his drawings using the same materials giving his artwork a spectacular feel of uniformity. The assortment of the variety of forms and gestures indicates Moyers interest in the works of his inspirational artists such as Robert Smithson, David Smith, Agnes Martin and Eva Hesse. Moyer uses the phrase wide wake as an acknowledgment of his inspiring artists by likening the influence she has received from the previous artists to a wake of a boat on the water. The new sculpture and drawing give a spectacular assurance of an original aesthetic feel of beauty and careful combination of readymade and handmade.
Lessons Learnt
The most outstanding aspects of Moyers artwork are his ability to combine the colors of the different artwork. He has used the white color and the brick color to give his artwork the feeling of naturalness. The utilization of space enhances his artwork effectively. Also, he has used a wide space, 18 feet board to present his drawings.
