Political Race Analysis in Texas
The Race for the office of the Governor of Texas started on a high with Rick Perry holding the upper hand with the Republican Party support. The state had a lot of President Bush’s support, and he had offered to support Perry giving him an edge. Tony Sanchez was a Democrat characterized as rich and influential. He had enough legal and financial support and had the upper hand with his counterpart running for Senate, Kirk. Kirk was black and playing the race unifying factor, and multicultural diversification was an advantage on Sanchez with his ‘Dream Team’ slogan. Sanchez’s main strategy involved ensuring they obtained the maximum votes out of the Hispanic and black races. They included doing door to door campaigns and reaching individuals. Perry had a Republican strategic structure, and the majority of their supporters were white and informed elites. It made it easy for their reach strategy to push their policies (Last Man Standing: Politics Texas Style).
In the 2002 elections for the State Representative seat, Rick Green was the incumbent while Patrick Rose, the main challenger. The two candidates did not have much differences in age as Green was 31 and Rose 24. A major advantage for Rose was that Green had already held office and he would capitalize on the major ethical issues surrounding Green redirect towards his policies. Ross attacked him on health insurance policies and education for children (Last Man Standing: Politics Texas Style). Green championed for preventive measures for the health benefits of Texas and ensured religion was a major contrasting factor on issues that Republicans are not related.
