Pedagogies of Love
In the song, Origin of Love by Hedwig and the Angry Inch, "So we wrapped our arms around each other. Trying to shove ourselves back together. We were making love, making love" from the song, at first, there was chaos, and the need to destroy (Hedwig and the Angry Inch stanza 5 line 16-19). Every character, especially the folks, roamed the earth, and in one moment, they said that they would kill all the folks with a hammer, as they had killed the giants. Zeus also fought for the position to kill through the use of its lightning. Later in the song, the children of the sun, moon, Indian god, and earth were ripped through the flesh. Finally, at the end of the song, there is the consoling of each other with a recall of what had happened previously. There is love as people who were different hugged each other, shoved themselves back, and made love, the true meaning of love.
From the quote, love can come from different angles. The love in the song is a form of coming back together for people who were in dispute. From my experience as a residency, I came to think of love from the aspect of a new practice, I would make mistakes, but from the errors, I would get rectified and correct my mistakes. Kindness as a form of love is the love experienced mostly in new cultures (Costello, Eamon 3). The older people in the culture show kindness to the new people and take them on the path to make them effective. The motivation from the song was that if two conflicting people made love, then in case of any conflict in the workplace, I would work through and find love.
Superiors and people in the workplace are different. Some embrace new people, while others see them as competition. To the bell books, "competition in the classroom disrupts connection, making closeness between teacher and student impossible" (Hooks, Bell 130). From my experience, some units were hard to get along with experienced people, making it hard to learn from them. The role of love is to facilitate kindness, and I did get along with some, which facilitated my learning and connection. With most women being prone to the sense of touch, I could win love from most, which facilitated my learning.
