Necessary for a Social Worker to Show Tough Love to the Client
Social workers are taught the principle of decision-making to ensure that they uphold their professional values as they perform their roles and responsibilities. However, while working, they may be faced with the following ethical dilemmas. The first ethical dilemma is whether to receive a gift from a client (Brilliant, 2004). After receiving aid, most clients want to reciprocate by gifting social workers. However, receiving this gift could be deemed a breach of integrity, especially if the gift is prestigious, and on failure to accept the gift, the client's feelings may be hurt (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, 2018). The second is confidentiality when dealing with minors. Although the information shared by the client is confidential, some of this information has to be shared with a third party, and this may be deemed a breach of trust.
