The classic love story between Cinderella and the prince characterizes the concepts of associated effects of emotion, proximity, repeated exposure, similarity, physical beauty, and familiarity. For instance, the concept of associated effects of emotion suggests that moods are sometimes created by causes other than the person of interest thereby causing one person to like the other even more. Cinderella and the prince meet at a ball arranged by the king: the ball is organized for the express purpose of helping the prince choose a wife and therefore the decorations, music, and entertainment are intended to create a positive effect on all attendees. This pleasant royal ball experience is critical to heightening feelings of attraction between the prince and Cinderella: the ball’s ambience puts everyone in a good mood and the prince becomes enamored by the amicableness and cheery nature of the mystery princess. The concept of proximity argues that people are attracted to one another partly because of their physical nearness: proximity allows people to know each other better and even recognize their similarities.
Cinderella becomes the prince’s love interest after going to the ball and spending the evening with him.
