Gender Issues in Music and Their Impact of Gender Equality in Society.
Gender equality is a critical element in the development process. An examination of how societal expectations and hierarchies influence the lives and possibilities of diverse groups of men and women should be a worthwhile element of the discussion. While gender equality is recognized as a basic human right, its implementation is essential for a peaceful, successful, and sustainable world to be achieved. The last several decades have seen significant progress as more girls are attending school, fewer teenagers are being coerced into forced marriages, more women are sitting in government and other leadership posts, and more laws are being changed to promote gender equality. Sexuality in music has become more intense and prevalent. Women are subjected to a continual barrage of images that define what they can, what they should look like, and how they are supposed to coordinate their lives. Men are often represented as strong and domineering, but women are frequently depicted as victims of circumstance, objectified, and seen as lesser vessels in popular culture. Because the music videos engendered in men the belief that women exploit their sexual identity to their advantage, it is believed that females have almost no basis for grumbling if men reciprocate their enthusiasm. However, it goes too far with respe...
