Feminism – Domination is an Abomination
Understanding the complex interaction between reality and circumstances of the feminist movement is essential for its success. It allows everyone to appreciate its 'true meanings' and reduces resistance and friction against this movement. However, as Catherine Mann has noted in her work entitled Domination is Abomination, sexism has permanently been embedded and passed systematically. It became a subtle and unconscious part of society that operates through a specific method, thereby creating a cycle of oppression that most would not even notice at all. Thus, in this article, I would like to focus on these kinds of oppression by looking at some of the arguments of women's rights movements, among others. All in all, I believe that having a deeper understanding of these arguments would allow for a better appreciation of the true intent of the women's rights movements.
Arguments of the Women's Rights Movements
The first argument of the women's rights movement is that it is not anti-male but only anti-sexism. Indeed, most women's rights movements these days include 'straight heterosexual males' who support the women's movement. However, since opposition groups (who are usually patriarchal) proffer the idea that feminism is essentially anti-male, they continue their oppression by making it appear that such movement is anti-equality after all.
The second argument of the women's rights movement is that it is most likely to unite all women. It is not only limited to gender but also other social issues such as racism, classism, and ageism, among others.
