Black Trans Women against Police Violence
Ever since the traditional days, male chauvinism took the lead, and oppression became a selective game. Recently, feminists have had to put up the fight to represent the Black women on their struggle towards equality. As the names state, Black women have been sorted out of the main population then subjected to discrimination on the grounds of their skin color representing their race and their gender as females. Males received high regard in society than the females as the able leaders, heads of families, and decision-makers. Females were reduced to serving, doing house chores, giving birth, and submitting to men. They suffered due to the stereotypes assumed in societies and fought against the predesigned undermining in communities. The Black transwomen are affected as their gender betrayed them in terms of being declared male at birth. Still, they are female than to an extent they changed through hormone replacement therapy to be entirely female and might be heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or asexual. The identity of being a transwoman makes the difference in the treatment they receive due to their gender. The movements currently started are mainly against police violence. But the problem is that they were never the center of the uprisings even when they began them, as men took the credit of championing for justice movements. This discussion is meant to explain why Black transwomen should be at the center of uprisings against police violence.
According to Chimamanda (2009), in her speech, "The Danger of a Single Story," she states that if we hear only a single story about a person, we ought to end up making a critical misunderstanding. The perceptions by society on the skin color superiority or inferiority whereby the whites have been considered superior led to racism as one among the oppressions that made her decide to advocate on a cultural basis bearing in mind her success as a black woman. Black trans women should be at the center of uprisings due to their efforts to acquire the protection of Black lives' rights and because of their courage to speak out even after the recent unfortunate killings and police brutality towards the black people. Working for the inclusion of transgender rights in the bill of protections by the state under the Sexual Orientation Non-discrimination Act is another effort by a feminist called Rivera, who suffered criticism due to gender. She had to live on the streets as a child prostitute till a movement rescued her called drag queens but left a legacy of the stone monument dedicated to LGBTQ rights among her contributions (Orangias, Simms, and French, 715). Such efforts seen before the stonewall, during, and after add to the need of putting the transgender females at the center of the uprisings they started. The police who engage in the discrimination acts have done so after misgendering, which has increased the cries for justice. Two Black transwomen, namely Dominique Fells and Riah Milton, are among the victims and the reason for the activist movements by Black transwomen against police violence (Isabe...
