The same way people have different cultures is the same way their faith and worship varies. There is a link between culture and religion as one most definitely influences the other. The two religions cover more than half the population of the world. In that case, religion is a unifying factor bringing people from diverse backgrounds into one idea of worship. Religions helped maintain order in society as they have laws like the commandments of Christianity. The word religion has no specific definition but revolves around the issue of faith. However, some people live happily without believing in a god, thus being called non-religious. This essay discusses the major religions, how they came to be, how they spread, and hints on some of the other known but uncommon religions.
The world has so many religions due to the many cultures, the most practiced being Christianity and Islam. According to Levenson (20), Christianity is the belief in God as the creator. He is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, and their overall supernatural being. The faith refers to the Bible as their holy book that contains God’s guidance of living righteous lives. Christians worship together in churches. It originated as a religion from the ministry of Jesus then spread quickly from Rome, where Christians were persecuted but later became a state religion and spread across the states. Christianity and Islam have a similarity whereby they both believe in one God, who is the God of Abraham in both (Levenson, 20). Islam is the second-largest religion believes in God as a prophet.
