Introduction
Khaled Abu El Fadl is considered as a prominent critic of the Islam puritanism, hence depicting his debate that argues that Islam as a deeply tolerant religion. Injections to instances of violence against the nonbelievers from the misreading of the Qur’an as described by Khaled and the Jihad is known as the holy war has no basis in the Qur’anic text of the Muslim theology. Khaled Abu El Fadl stresses on the existence of problematic interpretations that are perceived as indifferent from the characteristic of Islam(El Fadl, Khaled 12). A primary reason for such differences is detailed by Khaled Abu El Fadl remains in the emergence and popularity of some of the misleading interpretations of this religion which bases their claims on the pure versions of religions.
By emptying the Qur’an within the moral and historical context is considered as an aspect that enhances the puritan’s trends that crucially transforms the moral noncommittal legal demands. Khaled Abu El Fadl emphasizes on the self-proclamation of the Puritans, an aspect that is evident in Osama Bin Laden’s claims of pursuing Islam from traditional deviations, hence the misunderstandings and misrepresentation of the intent of the Islam religion. An instance of this is evident in the misuse of the term Jihad that believes in the element of war as holy and justifiable(El Fadl, Khaled 13). Contrary to the beliefs of the Puritans, “the highest form of Jihad is considered as a struggle that wages the cleansing of oneself from the vices of the heart.” Nevertheless, the puritan Muslims as noted by Khaled Abu El Fadl and considered as intolerant to other religions, a view that goes against the message of the Qur’an which clearly states that:
