Every organization aspires to succeed by maximizing the profit margin as well as minimizing on their expenditure. For this to happen, leaders and managers play a vital role in making the best decisions and innovation with the aim of remaining relevant and current in their undertakings. Although some people confuse managers with leaders, these two people have different roles and responsibilities though at times their responsibilities overlap. Management is the process of getting a task done through people whereas leadership is the ability to influence people towards a desired direction. This forms the basis of the difference in outlook between leaders and managers (Jones, 2011)
In terms of roles and responsibilities, leaders are more concerned with innovation and influence. On the other hand, management deals with making things done effectively and efficiently using available resources. Therefore, a manager administers what have been innovated. Management deals with leading, controlling, planning, staffing and organizing unlike leaders who spend most of their time trying to come up with new ways of doing things. This means leaders focus more on maintaining the status quo and operating within the already established guidelines.
