Introduction
There seem to be several forms of self-observation that are totally different from each other (Anzieu 111). The aspect of self-observation skills tends to vary across different spectrums and contexts. In this case, self-observation refers to observations as well as reflections concerning self at present. Further, mindfulness refers to a special type of self-observation with the attention towards the self-experience in the current situation devoid of cognitive elaboration. There are various divergent aspects of self that give understanding as well as representation of the inner aspects of the self that is ultimately shaped by the outside environment. Importantly, there are several aspects of self that points specifically to particular cultures. Notably, different people have the capability of believing a variety of characteristics about themselves depending on their environments. The nature of the environment helps in framing or conceptually representing people in multiple ways. A cross-cultural survey of self lends the fact that self is primarily the sum total of different social factors and to some extent as a social category, the self is the total to infinite variation. The exact content, as well as the structure of the self in any individual virtually, differs considerably depending on the culture. At the same time, the reflection of the public self is basically a derivation of the relations with people and social institutions that varies with culture (Mitchell 12).
Self-independent
This concept points to the belief in the inherent separateness of different persons. The cultural goal of independence requires that one’s behavior reflects the organization of their internal school of thoughts, actions, and feelings rather than a combination of the feelings, thoughts and actions of others. The extent of the view of self in this case, derives its wholeness as well as uniqueness from the personal configuration of internal attributes (Anzieu 274). Such perspective results in such processes as self-actualization, self-realization, expression of one’s unique configuration of needs, capacities, rights or in other words the development of an individual’s distinctive potential. The basic essentiality of such a perspective entails the conception of the self as an independent individual, therefore, referring to it as an independent construal of self. There is an assumption that the majority of the individuals in the western culture embraces such views more dearly as compared to those from non-western cultures. However, the independent self is always responsive to the social environment for the purposes of strategically determining the best ways through which they can assert their internal attributes of the self (Mitchell 15).
In western culture, the independent view of self-results from the various aspects of self and others.
