PS261 Social Psychology HW Assignment 3 For this assignment, write a well-crafted, detailed essay about a time when you or someone you know had an experience with cognitive dissonance. 1. Explain what caused the cognitive dissonance (in detail) and explain how you or the other person felt when realizing there was attitude-behavior discrepancy? Then, explain how you or the other person ultimately changed the attitude. 2. According to researchers in cognitive dissonance there are a number of ways we could eliminate the tension that produced the cognitive dissonance. Describe two other techniques you or the other person could have used (besides the one described in part 1) and how these other techniques would have specifically decreased the psychological tension? 3. Finally, there are three alternative theories that predict a change in attitude besides cognitive dissonance. Using your example of the experience of cognitive dissonance where you or another person had a change in attitude, explain how the other three alternative theories could be used to predict and explain the change in attitude.
