Rawls proposed that the theory of justice can be reached based on what citizens would agree to accept unanimously, if they left aside their particular interests and own benefit and think in the "general interest or will. Additionally, Rawls did not consider the budget constraint, in his analysis yet indifference curves are mostly accompanied by the budget constraint to determine the optimal allocation of resources. The Rawlsian indifference curves are L-shaped like along the 45-degree line in the case of perfect complements and there is reasonably expected that in a just society social justice ought to be advantageous for all (principle of difference) since there is voluntary social cooperation. This principle has been used in distributive justice since combating poverty and inequality requires efforts to address poverty and greater access to the distribution of goods (Rawls 63). When considering income and wealth, maximizing the benefits to the least advantaged is prioritized. Rawls criticized utilitarianism which placed too much emphasis on maximizing satisfaction for the greatest number of people, as this in unfair because some people sacrifice particular interests. People make rational choices and everyone has the same set of basic freedoms.
