Social media has a tremendous effect on how people, employees, and organizations communicate and maintain relationships with families, friends, and consumers. Some of the renowned social media platforms are Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. The most significant thing about social media is that it gives individuals the freedom to share their ideas, opinions, thoughts, and life events. Organizations can use social media for their benefit to create and retain trusting relationships with employees, customers, and other stakeholders. Social media offers two-way instant communication between the involved parties, making it more effective than television or print. For example, human resource (HR) managers can use social media in the recruitment process to search for highly skilled and talented candidates in different parts of the world. In that light, social media should be integrated with the HR functions to facilitate success in organizations.
Social media is an essential tool that HR managers can use for employee engagement and corporate branding. Some of the HR functions include recruitment, developing rewarding and appraisal systems, employee engagement, creating a conducive working environment and enhancing good relations among workers. All these functionalities can be bolstered using social media. The best thing about social media is that employees can collaborate, interact, engage, and react to various things without fearing HR managers (SHRM). As such, the HR department should create social media platforms that should be open for workers to communicate and discuss various issues affecting them in their daily operations. That way, it becomes easy for HR managers to know the problems employees face in the workplace and intervene to provide appropriate solutions. If some workers do not relate well to others, HR managers can know through employees’ conversations on social media. As such, they can come up with the best solutions to promote oneness in the workforce.
Social media overcomes the geographical barrier that hinders HR managers from interacting with employees from different parts of the world. Notably, many organizations are entering the global market by offering products and services overseas. On that note, it becomes easy for HR managers to use social media to bring all workers together. HR managers can develop special relationships with all employees and avoid potential problems, such as workplace conflicts.
