Leadership is a frequently used term, yet its precise definition is not distinct. Besides, several scholars define the term variedly depending on the context and discipline of knowledge. Therefore, this essay attempts to develop a definition of leadership acceptable in different fields through real-life examples of peoples’ traits and, finally, an analysis of management traits that mostly tend towards achieving the organizational objectives.
Leadership is the holistic process having an interactive influence created in a context where a group of people has accepted a person as their head as they work toward achieving a shared common objective. Consequently, the purpose of leadership is to achieve the joint goals set by the team and their selected head (Silva 3). The three most important leadership traits include; the ability of a leader to apply effective skills in solving problems, aim toward achieving the set organizational goals, and approach issues through different perspectives (Feser et al. 2-3). Among the notable leaders with exemplary leadership skills are Ghana’s Jerry Rawlings, who applied result-oriented skills to shape Ghana’s economic policies in the 1980s. Second is New Zealand’s Prime Minister, who steered has steered her country in managing the coronavirus pandemic at sustainable levels. FinallyBen Carson, who, through his application of different skills in surgery, has been able to lead his team of surgeons into performing delicate brain surgeries for the first time.
When a leader possesses the desired traits expected by the subjects, there is a high possibility of achieving the set objectives (Nichols 15). Therefore, great leaders must work hard to win the trust of their employees to increase the chances of achieving common goals.
