Employee engagement is a significant contributing factor to the success of any organization. This is because it facilitates the ability of employees to relate with one another as well as with their managers in ways that promote both personal and professional relationships that are crucial to realizing organizational success (Treviño and Nelson 289). In this respect, it becomes essential for managers to learn how to engage with employees, both personally and professionally in order to foster these relationships. It is also worth noting, that this not only promotes the development of the organization, but also creates an environment in which ethics are respected and valued and observed by all employees.
For instance, it is highly important that managers observe ethical practice when engaging with their employees. This means that they need to exhibit fairness, maintain honesty, and avoid harassment at all times (Treviño and Nelson 300-306). In this way they are able to create an ethical culture within the organization that supports their efforts as managers. However, it is important to note that problems such as nepotism can work well to compromise the ability of the organization to perform effectively as well as that of the manager to lead by example as a role model for other employees (Treviño and Nelson 309). At its core, nepotism is an act of favoritism and special treatment by managers. It essentially confers undeserved benefits to relatives of managers when they secure employment positions not by merit but by exploiting their blood relations. This can be a cause of friction within the organization's former which inherently compromises organizational performance.
