The The Yellow Wallpaper was a story written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, a prominent American novelists of the 19th century. She was a feminist writer and grew up at the times when women’s contribution in the social economic affairs were not recognised. She was an inspirational to the generations that came after her. The story focuses on the lady Mallard who has internal battles with her husband and feels relieved when she receives the news of her husband’s death, but the news were not true. The story "The Story of An Hour" by Kate Chopin was written in the year 1894 centered on the narrator who has issues with his husband John about their personal space. John does not take into consideration the complaints that the narrator has about their location and the place that they stay. He always turns down his wishes.
Mrs. Mallard is portrayed as a very caring wife that loved to spend time with her husband in the story of an hour. This is evidenced by the opening statements where great care was to be given before breaking the news of the death of her husband due to her failing heart. In the room, by the window, Mrs. Mallard is seen to wonder what it would be like to live a life of her own. Her husband gave a reason to live and with him gone, a dark cloud loomed over her head. She is also seen to be a very private person. She retreats back to her room to process the death of her husband. She is an emotional woman as shown by her bursting into tears and thinking to herself that she would cry again when she saw his body. However, his crying appears deceptive at some point.
