The specific advances in gender equality that occurred since Gilman's day
Charlotte Perkins Gilman wrote the yellow wallpaper to present her views on both economic and political factors that are responsible for gender inequality. She highlighted how the division of labor based on the traditional practices viewed women as housewives while men as the breadwinners (Gilman, 2014). For Gilman, this was problematic because women totally depended on men economically. Before the 19th-century women were denied educational opportunities, educating women was seen as subversive.
Since the Gilman's days, gender equality has been witnessed in many areas; women have become vocal participants in politics. Women roles have since changed, most women contribute equally to the family. Women have equal education and employment opportunities as men. Women unique capabilities are being recognized and appreciated (Grapard, 2013).
