The authors Charles W. Chesnutt, Charlotte Perkins Stetson, and Sui Sin Far are talented in their delivery of the stories and the use of writing techniques such as imagery, realism, and story reversal. These techniques are prevalent in their short stories and they are attributed to their success, thus for a writer to be successful and have an influence on people, they should consider using these techniques to spice up their writings.
The Wife of His Youth by Charles W. Chesnutt is a reading that utilizes all the writing techniques mainly realism. The author describes the situation and the characters in the most real way possible and his mode of delivery keeps the reader hooked until the end of the story. He gives more context on Mr. Ryder and the blue vein society, which required their members to be the kind of white which shows your blue veins. Mr. Ryder is then approached by a woman who claims that her husband is lost and she needs his help in tracking him. Mr. Ryder had gone to war but the author makes it seem like it’s just a coincidence that the woman’s husband got lost after the war. It was not easy to predict this due to the author's arrangement and choice of words throughout the whole story. CITATION Che \l 1033 (Chesnutt)
