Wk. 4-Essay in a Different Style or Voice: Roe v. Wade Ruling in Future
In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court gave a ruling on the case of Roe v. Wade on abortion rights. The court held that Texas law that restricted abortion was against the 14th Amendment of the constitution that guaranteed personal liberty on the U.S. women. However, the court recognized the efforts of Texas state interest in the protection of maternal health and the life of the fetus. The court held that the women’s right to privacy and liberty was a paramount constitutional right that could only be revoked if the state could show compelling interests (Linton 18). Therefore, according to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Roe v. Wade case, women were granted the right to choose whether to perform an abortion. The Roe v. Wade law's enactment led to a significant reduction in the number of maternal mortality reduced. Furthermore, it has led to more women joining educational institutions as well as their ability to manage their productive life. Due to changes in the society on fertility, medical advancement, and other factors, what impact does the Wade v. Roe ruling have in the future?
Before Roe v. Wade ruling in 1973, women were still accessing legal abortion in at least five states in the U.S. these include; Washington, Alaska, New York, and Hawaii (Myers & Caitlin 2179). Several research findings show that there was a significant reduction in unsafe abortion and maternal deaths resulting from unsafe abortions. According to a report by Gleeson, the number of maternal mortalities as a result of unsafe abortions was approximately 35% in the 1960s (7). However, after the introduction of Roe v. Wade law, the number of maternal deaths related to unsafe abortions dropped to 27% in the year 2000 (7). The research does not provide any data on the effect of safe abortions before Roe v. Wade. Therefore, the available data only includes research information on the reduction in the number of unsafe abortions. Women in these states had access to safe abortions, and therefore, the research on maternal health should not only concentrate on the legalization of abortion in 1973. 
Additionally, access to legal abortion in 1973 reduced the number of births per woman in the U.S. There is a big difference between fertility rate in the states that legalized abortion earlier compared to those that legalized abortion as a result of Roe v. Wade ruling. The differences in the fertility rate of these states were relatively stable in the late 1960s when abortion was illegal in most states (Guldi 817). After the introduction of Roe v.
