Oklahoma Teacher Walk out
Introduction
This letter is forwarded to Senator James Lankford, who is the incumbent Senator of the State of Oklahoma. We believe that he is the best person to pass a new State ordinance, granting a salary increase for Oklahoma teachers preventing future walkouts. The main reason can be based on the recent case of Bailey v. Independent School Dist. No. 1-29:: 2011: Oklahoma. It is one of the cases that escalated to Oklahoma Supreme Court (Justia US Law, 2011). The judges affirmed the case in favor of Bailey and company, pursuant to the availability of funds in the State Department of Education to provide at least a yearly $5,000 bonus to teachers. The law is pursuant to the Educational Leadership Oklahoma Act. This letter seeks to imply an argumentative presentation regarding the recent Oklahoma teachers walk-out.
The concession of this argument is that Senator James Lankford should stress the importance of Educational Leadership Oklahoma Act across the State. The main reason is that the State’s Department of Education allocates at least a yearly $5,000 bonus to teachers across the state. Aside from the existing allocation of a yearly $5,000 bonus to teachers, Senator Lankford should pressure the State’s Department of Education to raise the wages of the teachers for at least 20% of their total annual salary. As evidence, teachers are now protesting due to the impact of having a low salary that fails to support their socio-economic status (Peace, 2018). The provision shall not only apply to the State of Oklahoma but to the entire United States. This is a problem that is slowly attracting media attention across the United States. The issue could significantly affect the educational system of the United States due to the limitation of wage benefits, especially in the State of Oklahoma.
There is a counterargument stating that Oklahoma State Senator James Lankford is not the right person to file a new law or provision to increase the salary of the teachers. The first opposing view is the existence of Educational Leadership Oklahoma Act that provides bonuses to eligible teachers. This means that teachers should be eligible first before being qualified to receive a bonus from the Department of Education. The second opposing view is that teachers who are ineligible are those who did not further have experience, educational attainment, and licenses to qualify for the annual $5,000 bonus. As evidence, the State Board of Education and the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation are only authorized institutions to establish the education Leadership program for teachers (Justia US Law, 2014).
As for the refutation, Oklahoma Senator James Lankford is still the right person who should pass a bill that will soon become a new Oklahoma School law, granting higher wage benefits for all teachers across the state. The recent protes...
