The Cause and Effect of Discrimination Against International Students
Are injustices in education affecting international students in the United States of America (USA) possible to eliminate? For example, discrimination against foreign learners is a problem encountered in various American universities. Some international students might fight it challenging to achieve their career objectives due to increased disruptions. However, the only effective way to combat this issue is by focusing on its cause and effect. Why do domestic students discriminate against their foreign counterparts? This paper focuses on the cause and effect of discrimination against international students in American universities and colleges.
The primary cause of discrimination against international students in American universities is individuals’ differences. People are classified based on their race, religion, age, social status, skin color, gender, culture, sexual orientation, and ethnicity. In most cases, foreigners studying in higher education institutions in the USA have distinctive cultural beliefs, norms, values, behaviors, and personalities. They stand out when compared to domestic students. In the online survey conducted by Pei-Chun Tsai and Meifen Wei, 258 Chinese international students in American universities cited various things that contributed to discrimination against them (Tsai and Wei 352). For instance, the language barrier between Chinese and American students made it challenging during classroom discussions. That is why domestic students emphasize creating discussion groups without involving international students, who are considered disruptors during teamwork.

Representing diversity visually via recruitment brochures and websites is not a strategy to curb discrimination against foreigners in American universities (Buckner et al. 33). In reality, international students studying in the USA encounter numerous problems hindering them to adjust to their new academic environments. After American universities advertise their education services and admit these foreign learners, they do not bother to create an all-inclusive environment where these students can adjust smoothly.
Racialized American campus incidents cause discrimination against international students. Yao et al. studied international students of color in American universities. Researchers found that personal, institutions, transnational, and national perspectives significantly contributed to increased differences between domestic and international students (Yao et al. 387). In other words, racialized incidents are common in American uni...
