In this discussion you should respond to the following prompts:

Yes Explain why or why not. Do you think you fully understand the impact of race on your friend(s)? Explain why or why not. How can sociology be used to (a) recognize, (b) publicize, and (c) combat racial discrimination? Be specific for each and clearly explain your response.
Explain what ‘equal rights’ means to you. How much equality is there in US society between men and women?
Why should men be interested in promoting equal rights and opportunities for women? What are some appropriate ways for men to help women gain greater social, political and economic power?

I have a good friend from the black race. We met in high school and became close friends through class discussions and maintained that friendship until today. We discuss several issues affecting society, including racism. Being black, my friend's race is among the most racially discriminated against. I understand the impact of racism on my friend because she belongs to the most affected race by racial discrimination in the US. I always observe her body language when discussing racial matters, and I can tell that the topic affects her significantly.
Sociology is the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society and thus can be used to recognize, publicize, and combat racial discrimination (Korgen & White, 2014). Recognizing racial discrimination using sociology happens when we know how our society functions. We can use the results from studying the functioning of society (sociology) to publicize racial discrimination cases and raise attention about them. The attention from publicizing racial discrimination will, in turn, increase efforts to combat it.
