Reflection on this Course
We tend to forget most of the texts we read and the movies, films, and TV shows we watch every day. Like Pamela Paul, The New York Times Book Review editor, memories are galvanized by experience (Beck). However, for students pursuing a course, reading and watching films related to the content improves memorization of the course materials and academic performance in that module. That is what this online course involved. In the module, we read some materials and watched films recommended by our instructor. At the end of each week, we had to write a critical reflection on what we learned. This final paper is a reflection on this entire course, indicating what we learned from the activities.
I chose to read and watch films that shared a similar theme, such as climate change and immigration. Based on the theme of climate change, I had two sets of materials that shared interesting subjects. I included the 42-minutes DW documentary, "Fleeing climate change -the real environmental disaster," and the related reading by Marco Martinello's "An introduction to International migration studies" book chapter "Environmental Migration". Gemenne (235) draws a link between migration and the ever-increasing challenge of environmental and climate changes.
