Symbolism of Tokens in the Novel "Battle Royale"

Two important literary devices are symbols and motifs. In this project you will be identifying a symbol or a motif and tracking its appearance throughout the novel and then creating a visual representation of the symbol or motif along with a list of quotes showing where it appears in the novel.
A symbol is an object or action that represents more than it literal meaning. Symbols often have layers of meaning, in that it represents its physical literal self but primarily through repetition it comes to have another meaning or association. The object or action needs to be repeated in order to develop its deeper or symbolic meaning. As you read, you will need to pay attention to objects and actions that are repeated and determine if you are seeing their meaning and significance shift in the repetition.
A symbol can be a motif. A motif is a repeated element in a work that may not be an object or an action. It can be a phrase or wording that is repeated and as it is repeated its meaning shifts or becomes multilayered. As you read, see if you notice any repetitive wording that gains deeper significance as it is repeated.
Once you have created your list of quotes of the symbol or motif, you will need to create a visual image of it in a manner that helps see its shifting or deeper meaning.
You may use any type of graphic and program to complete your visual image; for example, Canva, Adobe Spark, InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, PowerPoint, or Word.
In addition to your visual, you will submit a list of the uses of the symbol or motif in the novel, quoting the appropriate passage and the page number.
You will also need to include a page where you explain the significance of the symbol or motif and how it contributes to a theme of the novel. See the attached file for an example.
