Should we have death penalty?
There have been declarations that countries abandon the death penalty as a matter of human rights, but in the U.S. states adopted different laws few sill preserve the death option, and others have abolished the practice. Reforming the death penalty system is necessary at a time when there is increase concern that even the procedural safeguards are inadequate. Potentially, there are innocent people who are executed, it is not all people who get punished and the death penalty is expensive highlighting the need to abolish the practice.
The death penalty is final and irreversible and when there are innocent people there is no reinstitution here have been cases of suspects being exonerated using the latest technology, are reviewing the evidence and even because of false confessions. Abolishing the death penalty means there is lower risk of putting to death innocent people. The death penalty is still controversial and supporters who argue that it saves lives ignore human sensibilities since killing innocent people is unjust. According to information from the Death penalty Center, two men named Carlos DeLuna and Ruben Cantu were wrongfully executed but evidence to exonerate them came up a little late. DeLuna was executed in 1989 for stabbing a store clerk Wanda Lopez in 1983. However, evidence later revealed that DeLuna was in fact innocent and that a man named Carlos Hernandez was in fact the guilty party. Cantu, on the other hand, was convicted when he was 17 years old and executed in 1993. He was accused of shooting a man during a robbery. The key witness who had identified Cantu now says that he was in fact not the shooter and that he only identified him because he was under pressure. There are other examples as well which help to show that the death penalty only helps to rob the society of men and women who are innocent while the guilty walk free.
There have been questions on who gets punished and whether this reduces crime. Resistance to the death penalty shows that there are concerns justice is not serve when it is not all people who would be punished receive the death penalty. Furthermore, the costs of conducting capital punishment are at times high, yet the defendants and suspects have to go through lengthy process before it is determined whether there will be the death penalty.
