Rugby sport in South Africa first was long seen as a game played by the white population and the success of this competition acted as the real origin of Afrikaner pride. After the 50 year old apartheid overthrown in the year 1994, Nelson Mandela builds a nation with the aim of promoting racial unity. In the 1995 Rugby world cup, the world watched as South Africa played as hosts.
Sports acts as a source of unity as during that Rugby World Cup Africans first saw defining images of racial unity when the whites shook hands with the blacks and the black freedom fighter became president.
The activity brings spirit of reconciliation. An interview with observers whereby, Pienaar remembered the awful acts of whites that shaped his childhood. He explains how his childhood life was purely Afrikaner when the whites never had time to socialize with Africans. He explains how African children never appeared publicly and not heard. Comparing the past with the present, Pienaar is still shocked by the sudden change praising the first blck president as a leader with a grand vision through his idea of the famous of African white sports community.
Sports also promote dignity. Nelson Mandela whose names were terrorists or evil man is now seen as a hero inspiring millions across the world the idea of practicing actions and making world a better place.
