Reading Reflection and Video Reflection: Week 2 (Emergency First Aid) – Stroke
We learned about important concepts on stroke and how identifying symptoms of the condition can be critical in providing effective emergency first aid. Before this course, I have always understood stroke as a condition that results in a total loss of consciousness. The American Stroke Association website has highlighted some of the critical symptoms of stroke that should be observed when providing emergency aid. The video presents the case of Sherry Pinkstaff, a stroke patient who presented common signs of stroke. I learned about four-letter words that every emergency first aid person must remember, F.A.S.T (American Stroke Association). These four letters mean face drooping (F), arm weakness (A), speech (S), and time to call 911(T).
