In this essay, I will base on three texts which are; The great Gatsby, The story of an Hour, and Amy Foster. These three texts bases on a wide range of characters, images, and themes. According to the Great Gatsby, various themes are used: justice, power, greed, betrayal, and the American Dream. The story of an hour uses themes like marriage, freedom, and independence. On the other hand, the story of Amy foster bases on love, fear of the unknown, isolation.
In my opinion, one of the trending themes in the three texts is justice, freedom, and isolation. To me, the themes that I have identified in this essay are connected and almost have one implication. In the essay of Amy foster, there is isolation which means that power and freedom, and justice are not there. There is a character by the name of Goorall who is isolated in the text and lacks power. Despite the many challenges he faced on his way to America since he did not know English, he was isolated and unaccepted. During that time, he was working, but because of a lack of justice and isolation, he was not paid any wages. This is an implication that the character faced such problems due to lack of power, justice, and acceptance were migrated (Ruppel, pp. 130).
When it comes to The Story of an Hour, there is no freedom. A woman is a portrait as a character who has no freedom and power in marriage. It is noted that there is no freedom and independence, no love, and all those are held up. There is no justice in the story since ...
