The article, “Recruitment & Retention,” by Evert Akkerman observes the process of recruiting qualified candidates as a tussling one, particularly due to the perceived notion that the hiring process is an unending circle due to the regular employees’ turnover. The process of recruiting and retaining of employees in some instances is an expensive affair especially when managers and business owners use their emotions in the hiring process. More often than not, this behavior is evidenced by recruiting executives and over time results in the disastrous selection struggles and increase financial expenses for various institutions. The article highlights different aspects that precipitate these outcomes.
First, the article observes that recruiting managers tend to commit errors that reign havoc on institutions. The errors come about because of repeated promotions of unqualified people to positions of power. Evert observes that on average 82 percent of managers hold positions that are independent of the human resources department (Akkerman 5). Thus, it enables them to make independent decisions often informed by their instinctive or at the moment’s pressure. Hence, when a poor manager gets a promotion to such a position, an organization fail to build a high performing team. Moreover, the decision to rely on software in conducting recruitments also poses a disservice to an organization. The software tends to overlook essential aspects in human resource management, by considering everything as certain.
