compose a persuasive essay that responds to Bowles’s article.

Essay Instructions:

Using the third-person point of view of a son or a daughter (choose one) of Mort and Mindy Kondracke, compose a persuasive essay (400-word minimum, 500-word maximum) that responds to Bowles’s article. Your underlined thesis in the first paragraph must offer an opinion about the following argument, in the Bowles essay, by Russian novelist and poet Vladimir Nabokov.
"Our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness."
Give the son or daughter a first name and use it in each paragraph. Remember, in third person, you are not the son or daughter; you are writing about the son or daughter.
CAUTION: In each paragraph the point of view must be clearly the son or daughter. Personal pronouns (I, me, my, mine) are good words, but they are first-person pronouns, not third-person pronouns.
The minimum paragraph requirement for this assignment is introductory paragraph, supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.
As a reminder from Week 1, quotations are not permitted in the introductory or concluding paragraphs. Those paragraphs should be completely yours.
IMPORTANT: One paragraph of your essay must specifically address Mort and Milly Kondracke by name and their dilemma in the sixth paragraph of the Bowles essay.
IMPORTANT: There are additional assignment instructions on the Bowles handout.
As a reminder, the underlined thesis in the introductory paragraph must also be written from the same third-person point of view, but no names should be mentioned in the thesis.
Use “Dawn beyond Life’s Sunset Clause” as a source to create the in-text citations and a Works Cited section for your essay. The information for two of the citations is provided at the end of the Bowles reading.
Use an online Bible source to create an in-text citation and on the Works Cited page a full Bible citation. Please limit Bible sources to the following online versions: King James Version, New King James Version, New International Version, English Standard Version, American Standard Version, or New American Standard Version.
No other Bible sources shall be used.
As a matter of clarity, use three direct quotations in the essay: The Nabokov quotation from the Bowles source (not a Nabokov source), a Bowles quotation from the same source, and an online Bible quotation. Except for the Nabokov quotation, each quotation must be at least two complete lines of text. Limit the quotations to a total of not more than eight lines of text, accumulatively. To correctly cite an online Bible for this course, visit the course “How To” section for an example Bible citation. Variations of that example citation’s construction (format) will be subjected to the appropriate point deduction. For an excellent, searchable online Bible source, click here.

Response to Bowles’s Article
Life is indeed full of obstacles and it takes great courage to counter these obstacles to succeed. Russian novelist Vladimir Nabokov once said that "Our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness"(qtd in Nabokov). As Rebecca, one of the daughters of Mort and Mindy Kondracke argues, the above statement gives a pessimistic view of life. Instead she argues that life is indeed full of obstacles but courage and determination will determine whether one will defeat all these challenges or perish. It is therefore important for human beings to find their purpose in life, live their life to the fullest and focus on doing good. Human beings who understand their purpose will often view obstacles such as illness as part of their life journey and with full trust in God, they will be able to overcome them.
According to Rebecca, right from the beginning both her parents knew their purpose in life and marriage in general. When they got married in 1967 when they were still full of healthy, they knew that they would go in fully into their marriage until death will do them apart. As the author of the essay notes, “They loved with abandon, fought with passion and raised two daughters. Theirs is a no-matter-what, we-will see-it-through-together, until-death-do-we-part marriage” (Bowles para 2). The above statement is very strong and these two people knew that they were truly meant to be together. Nothing would separate t...
