The primary function of the media is mass communication. This entails entertainment, surveillance, and cultural transmission. Short films are visual compared to novels that use language and pictures to relay information (Kröller 66). In disasters and wars, traditional and social media are essential tools relaying information on the causes and impacts on societies and the environment. Both the short film and the novel narrates a story and have similar elements like the characters, the plot, and the action to facilitate the logical flow of the story.
