Nancy Troy’s “Abstraction, Decoration, and Collage” portrays that abstraction is a means of eradicating the barriers between the painting and environment (Troy 154). The introduction of decoration brought controversies in abstract art since it promoted the reliance of an object to its surrounding. Art Nouveau significantly contributed to the apotheosizing of decoration. Many artists believed that there is no way that art would maintain its actual meaning without depending on nature.
