This I Believe: Cold War, Mccarthyism, And Racial Division

Essay Instructions:

“This I Believe” Assignment
This I Believe is based on a 1950s radio program of the same name, hosted by acclaimed journalist Edward R. Murrow. Each day, Americans gathered by their radios to hear compelling essays from the likes of Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Robinson, Helen Keller, and Harry Truman as well as corporate leaders, cab drivers, scientists, and secretaries—anyone able to distill into a few minutes the guiding principles by which they lived. These essayists' words brought comfort and inspiration to a country worried about the Cold War, McCarthyism, and racial division.
The program has expanded and continued in new radio versions, a number of anthology books, and podcasts. The continued goal is to have people from all different walks of life and backgrounds speak intimately and engagingly about convictions, passions, and worldviews.

She always said that every one of us contributes to war either directly or indirectly and I thought she was wrong, since I believed war was inevitable. While looking at the facts surrounding World War II, I now strongly believe that the war was man-made because it could have been avoided if the Japanese had resisted the urge to control...
