iPhone Technology: Development, Purpose, and Ripple Effects
Your third essay for this class will be both informative and persuasive. You will be asked to choose a piece of technology developed in the last century (anything from 1922-today) and discuss why it changed the world. Please use research to back up your assertions. You may choose a very broad type of technology (a cell phone) or a very specific one (an iPhone). Remember that ‘technology’ does not just include electronics! You could talk about architecture, medicine, agriculture, etc.
Consider: was this piece of technology positive, negative, or both? How did this piece of technology develop, and why? What was its intended purpose, and is it still used in the same way? What ripple effects did this technology have on the world? Who has been affected by its creation, and how?
This essay should be at least 1000 words in length. Please choose a readable, reasonable font.

iPhone Technology Essay
Introduction
Steve Jobs was the founder of the iPhone technology used today. He introduced the smartphone during the Macworld Conference in January 2007. According to reports, the iPhone appeared unique in the founder's hands and its first onscreen presence (Yanzhen). Although it is not regarded as the first smartphone produced in mobile history, the iPhone technology has helped facilitate the mobile computing concept among customers and organizations. Many people consider the iPhone technology one of the exceptional innovations witnessed in the 21st century because it has positively impacted many individuals.
Whether the Technology was Positive or Negative or Both
The benefits of possessing an iPhone are many, and they outweigh the disadvantages. The positives make it easier for people to believe why the smartphone is increasingly gaining popularity in the mobile industry or market. The benefits range from capturing quality photos, watching movies, creating PowerPoint presentations, and storing data to creating reminders and calendars. Despite the merits of the technology, iPhones can also be disadvantageous. For instance, iPhones are not affordable to many people; hence it becomes difficult for huge populations to acquire them. In addition, users always have to be careful when handling them because repair costs can be too high if they get damaged.
Moreover, most individuals cannot easily afford the iPhone's accessories, such as Apple Pencil and Air pods. Secondly, customizing devices with iOS systems is not possible because the code is private (Harkin and Molnar). Users can only jailbreak their devices to customize, which is risky. Thirdly, extending the phone's memory space to built-in storage poses limitations. However, getting a phone is an individual choice based on personal taste and preference.
How the Technology Developed
Like any technology, there is always advancement from one point to the other. Notably, iPhone technology has undergone different stages of development. Despite the first release of the phones in 2007, the actual development phase commenced in 2005. The development remained a secret. Jobs, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Apple, revolutionized the concept of utilizing a touch screen to communicate with the smartphone system as other mobiles used keypads. After the first iPhone, an updated iteration of the previous phone came every year. iPhone 3G was the second mobile. Its notable characteristics included tri-band, GPS, and 3G data enabled. Since then, new iPhones have had many features. Some of these include quality cameras, speakers, quad-band, face recognition, voice assistant, fingerprint scanners, etc. iPhone SE is another technology version. It was released on April 24, 2020. The emergent models have powerful processors with a 2.66 GHz rate meaning the phones can run 2.66 billion instructions per second. Bionic chips are also installed (Wilson).
