Before consumers decide to buy a smartphone from a store, they have undergone a purchase decision process. The process entails diverse factors that influence the final decision of the client. During the process, the customer faces situational, psychological, and social-cultural factors that determine whether they will purchase a product or not. Various stages are involved in the process, which is described as follows.
The first stage in the purchase decision process is problem recognition. Consumers find themselves in situations that trigger a specific need addressed by a particular product, such as a smartphone. Customers might come across an advertisement about the latest iPhone or other phone brands that stimulate and shows how the client's problem can be addressed. For example, the customer can realize that their phone has poor video and picture quality. If they want one with high-quality video and picture quality, it triggers them to buy the smartphone (Kerin & Hartley, 2019). The difference between a person's actual situation and ideal situation triggers the need.
