The Supreme Court ruled that the government did not violate Carpenter's right to privacy, as highlighted in the Fourth Amendment. The Fourth Amendment provides room for the right to privacy by allowing people a right to have privacy be accorded to every citizen. Since the government obtained the defendant's CSLII information from a third party, no rule was violated, especially regarding the right to privacy in the Fourth Amendment. The CSLI information search was necessary because the reasonable cause of such an action was warranted.
