You will prepare a paper that elaborates on your interpretation of the work of art, drawing upon what you have learned from your sources; for this you are expected to go beyond 1. what you presented orally, and 2. information in the two sources you initially found for your annotated bibliography. The research paper will be about 3-4 full pages, or 800-100 words, with citations done in Chicago Manual of Style format for the Humanities. Interpretation of Art
Introduction
On my visit to the Jule Collins Smith Museum, I selected a piece of art by Berthe Morisot. The art is a sketch painting titled “The Jeunes Filles Sur Le Balcon” done in 1893. Jeunes is a French word used to mean youth or to refer to a young person. Filles is a French name used to refer to girls or maidens. Balcon is a French word for balcony. The title of the painting by Morisot can be translated to mean, “The Young Girl on the Balcony”. Not the exact word depending on the translator though the idea is still of some girl on a balcony. The painting is among a vast collection of Morisot in the gallery.
Morisot, full names Berthe Mari Pauline Morisot, was a painter in Paris who was born on the 14th January 1841 and died on 2nd March 1895. She was known as the impressionist where impressionism was an art method used in the 19th century with art done with thin but visible brush strokes. She even earned the title The Great Lady of impressionism. Her first work of art was in 1864 when she exhibited in the official art exhibition for academics in Paris known as the Salon de Paris. Morisot is remembered with her great works of art which are located in various galleries and museums.
The Jeunes Filles Sur Le Balcon
The art of French culture is a 28 and three quarters by thirty and a quarter inches painting numbered 2004.01 in the Jule Collins Smith Museum. The art is a sketchy image drawn using pastel and charcoal. It is a painting made of fine thin lines of charcoal and some pastel colorings. The thinness of the line and their visibility can be viewed as works of impressionism. Morisot also called The Greta Lady of Impressionism, showed a lot of skills in this drawing. The clarity of the lines and their shaping to bring out the image just like she wants it to look like.[Krogh, Schuyler. “Birthing the modern: modernity, maternity, and subjectivity in the art of Berthe Morisot.” PhD diss., University of British Columbia, 2019.]
A closer look at the painting shows that it is divided into two. On the left is a middle-aged and medium-bodi...
