Reading George Orwell’s 1984 was one of my greatest reading experiences. The man saw the future and told it as he saw it. Today, people read the book and marvel at the foresight of Orwell. For me, 1984 changed a lot for me and greatly impacted on my literacy development. The book impacted my writing and thought process.
One way that the book impacted my writing and thought the process is through its predictions. In the book, Orwell makes a lot of predictions which many have come to consider as warnings. These warnings were made in 1949 but everyone admits that the ideas in the book are quite relevant today. However, these predictions or warnings could not have been made if Orwell considered his world at the time. Orwell saw his surroundings and saw the future through the actions of the government. It may not have been obvious and he did stand a chance to be wrong if the world turned out differently, but he made sure he documented his thought and shared it with the world. Often, when something does not resonate with people, it is easily dismissed. A good example is the world of art. Many people can dismiss a piece of art mainly because they do not understand it. However, those who understand it dig deeper and seek to understand the thought process of the artist. This book is the same. It called for such minds.
