Frankenfood Article Compared to Media Literary Concepts
In the article, the author tries to argue his case on why GMOs are not as bad as some people try to imply. To pass his message, he uses several persuasion techniques. The first of those techniques is testimonials. In testimonials, opinions of people testifying about the value of a product are used to endorse an idea. The author cites that “88 percent of the members of American Association for Advancement of Science” hold that GMOs are safe. This is meant to downplay the notion that GMOs are not safe because there is testimony from the experts. The other persuasion technique that the author has used is symbols. Using the image of a tomato with a syringe the offering an explanation that this is what has been used to discredit GMOs catches attention. People would get to understand that the opposition against GMOs has been based on false information because there genetically modified tomatoes and tomatoes are used when arguing against GMOs. This serves to create doubts and persuade people to change their stance.
The author also tries to use the opinion of experts in arguing his case on why people should not view GMOs negatively. For example, the author cites the opinion of an agriculture professor who argues that GMOs are described using the wrong worlds while they are just tools that enable us to modify plants with a greater precision and that they will be valuable.
