Critical Evaluation on the Perspective of Islamic. Art First Paper Assignment

Essay Instructions:

Critical Evaluation of a Reading from the Course
We depend on the work of historians and art historians in the field not only for information but also for guidance, by providing a framework for our understanding of the past and for our continued discussion of it. But this work is never without a point of view that shapes its presentation of historical material. Implicit, or explicit in each historical narrative and analysis that we read is an interpretation. What I would like you to do in this assignment is to write a critical evaluation of a text that was assigned as required reading in this course. You may select any one of the texts that were assigned for weekly reading.
There are two points that I would like you to cover:
The first is a description of the content of the text, the author’s scope or problem, the questions s/he attempts to answer and the author’s methodology. What source material from the period, for example, does the author discuss? How does the author present it? What is the author’s goal?
The second point is to undertake a critical evaluation of the author’s presentation and argument. Does the author succeed in doing what s/he sets out to do? What are the strengths or weakness of the author’s presentation? What could the author have done better? You may use any information gained from the other readings or the lectures and discussions in class as a context or framework for your critical assessment of the text.
Hi, this is the reading I choose from my class. and I already uploaded to the file section

Critical Evaluation on the Perspective of Islamic Art
The perspective in which Islam is viewed by their Western counterparts is a stance that refuses to go away. This treatment has seen Islamic art being judged in the same manner and not being the recognition it deserves for its influence in historic art. Discussions have been held on the matter by countless art historians seeking to find out the extent of the Islamic art on history’s renowned art periods like the Italian Renaissance. In his book, Arnold Hottinger discuses colonial and post-colonial perspectives, the history of Islamic art, the impact of terminologies, and untenable paradigms. It provides an opportunity to understand his motives and find out whether he does a good job of presenting the argument.
Point one
For long, the Arabic culture has been subject to Orientalism which is a perspective in which Arabic people are compared to the Western culture. The Arabic culture is reimagined, exaggerated, and at times distort differences to make it seem uncivilized, exotic, and inhumane. CITATION Ara20 \l 1033 (Arab Stereotypes) This methodological approach originated in the time of the European revolution and the colonization of the Arabic world. Something that has been affected by the approach is Islamic art in which its history has been altered to create a connection to the evolution of Western art. The art is being seen as a feeder for inspiration to more of the celebrated artistic periods like the Italian Renaissance.
The main reason for the lack of inclusion can be attributed to the perception of people with the word Islamic. A word that was meant to refer to a religion, Islam, has seen it used as a representation of Muslim societies and cultures. In the classical centuries, Islamic art did not yet have a major impact on Western art. It, however, contained a detailed representation of the region's cultures and subcultures within it. It is therefore very dismissive that survey books on Islamic art associate the aesthetic of the art with a religion rather than a cultural genesis.
For there to be a better appreciation for Islamic art, a revision is needed to disassociate the above positions and paradigms of history. CITATION Avi \l 1033 (Shalem) According to Grabar, it would entail the creation of new vocabulary and terminologies to refer to Islamic art. Also, there is a need to crested a visual theory that is rooted in culture-related frameworks and does not depend on the use of outside understanding. History has impaled the recognition of Islamic art by lumping it together and creating a gene...
